2008 Baguio Centennial Inter-School Chess Tournament

OBJECTIVES and MECHANICS

I. OBJECTIVES
1. To participate in the commemoration of Baguio Centennial celebration through chess.
2. To work hand in hand with Baguio Centennial Commission Officials in staging quality tournaments in the tradition of International Chess Events that was held in Baguio such as World Chess Championship, Asian Juniors Chess Championship, Marlboro Chess Classics and much more.

II. ELIGIBILITY and TEAM COMPOSITIONS
1. The tournament is open to all educational institutions in the city of Baguio.
2. There shall be three(3) categories, namely, College, High School, Elementary.
3. Each team shall composed of four(4) regular players and not more than two(2) alternates.
4. Players must be bonafide students of the school that he/she is representing. He/she must be currently enrolled in the school that he/she is representing.
5. TESDA recognized school may participate in the College category. Student enrolled in the Masters, Doctorate and Laws may participate in the College category.
6. Registration Fee = Php 500

III. RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. The FIDE Rules of Chess shall be adopted.
2. The tournament shall be five (5) rounds Swiss System.
3. The tournament is an Active 45. Forty-five (45) minutes is allotted for each player to make all moves that is necessary to finish the game.
4. Players must turn-off their cellphone while playing. The violator will forfeit his game.
5. Recording of moves in descriptive/algebraic notation is mandatory until the last five (5) minutes on either clock.
6. Defaulting time is 15 minutes from the start of the game.
7. It is the responsibility of the Team’s Coach to gather all score sheet, fill-in the summary sheet, and submit them to the Tournament Director.
8. The decision of the Arbiter is final.

IV. TIE-BREAKS
The following tie break shall be applied to determine the final ranking of each team.
a. Bucholtz
b. Sonnenbon Berger
c. Progressive
d. Team Average BCCC Rating
e. Board 1 Player’s BCCC Rating

V. BAGUIO CENTENNIAL CHESS CLUB (BCCC) RATING
a. BCCC Rating is similar with ELO Rating. Please visit www.secretchess.com for your latest BCCC Rating.
b. Players without BCCC Rating will be given a provisionary rating of 1800 for non-master and 2200 for national master.

Tournament: September 6, 2008 (Saturday) and September 13, 2008 (Saturday)

Champion : Gold Medals for each member of the team
PLUS 1 year privilege to keep the “Revolving” Trophy.
2nd Place : Silver Medals for each member of the team
3rd Place : Bronze Medals for each member of the team

High School
Champion : Gold Medals for each member of the team
PLUS 1 year privilege to keep the “Revolving” Trophy.
2nd Place : Silver Medals for each member of the team
3rd Place : Bronze Medals for each member of the team

Elementary
Champion : Gold Medals for each member of the team
PLUS 1 year privilege to keep the “Revolving” Trophy.
2nd Place : Silver Medals for each member of the team
3rd Place : Bronze Medals for each member of the team

NOTE:
Baguio Centennial “Revolving” Trophies shall be kept by the winning school for one(1) year. The school must win the title for three(3) consecutive years to own the trophy permanently.
